I discovered the joy of socks (good socks!) a while ago.
My go-tos now, for work in particular, are Darn Tough.
Lifetime guarantee on them; wear a pair out, they will replace them...I have yet to wear a pair out in the 3-4 years since I started wearing them.

Gold Toe socks for me, great support and they go to the knees for good compression when on my feet for a long day. I wear steel toe Caterpillar pull on boots all the time. They last about a year before breaking down. Wore Red Wing boots for years when I rode motorcycles, also steel toe.
