Combatives: Training in Reality-Based Self-Defense for the Street

Everyone’s day-to-day reality is different. If you’re in law enforcement, you have a greater chance of getting into a fight and drawing your weapon regularly. However, a soccer mom who works at a suburban nail salon won’t see that much action.
Self-defense does not mean beating a person up. You can effectively defend yourself without ever landing a punch or kick.

Where I went to school was 98% black and if you was one of the white kids, you fought every day. By the time I was in middle school, I fought with them and not against them. However, I am 52 years old now and broke down. I would probably get a butt whooping but would go down fighting like a banshee.

Another technique to break the side headlock, if the attacker is male, is a an open hand hard uppercut to the groin, grab the "package", squeeze as hard as you can, then pull down and twist violently. This will usually put the attacker on the ground when maximum force is applied to the testicles and give you time to escape.
