Colt MK IV

Bassbob

Emissary
My brother in law just inherited one of these. I haven’t got to look too much at it since it’s now packed deep in a 26’ U Haul truck, but it’s stainless, 9mm and the action feels a little stiff. Not unexpected from a gun his dad probably hadn’t touched in years.

Anyone know anything or have any opinions about this gun? I will be tasked with clean up and restoration of this and a few other guns which I will get into later. Steven’s Crack Shot model 26 and an old 500A, both in need of a lot of love.

This is an early 90's Combat Commander. The grips came from Altamont a few years back. I bought it used and I wasn't the one who put the idiot scratch on it!

This one was manufactured in 1987 and although horribly dirty, other than a few small scratches it's in nice condition. One identical to it sold online one week ago for $1499.00.

My brother in law's father left him 2 very important things. A nice Colt 1911 and a Mossberg 500A. Both of which I will post before and after pics of here.

Time to get them on the bench. The pictures didn't show it, but it appears someone purposely drifted the rear sight to the right pretty far. I'm inclined to believe the gun shoots straight though and it was the shooter who didn't. I'll bore sight it and see what it looks like. I assume the sight can be drifted with a punch ?

Single slide 500 or double?

The older model 500s had a single slide action bar, then they switched to dual slide action bars. Was curious which it is.
Oh duh. I thought you were referring to the Colt.

Yeah, it's an old 500A. I haven't opened it up yet, but I'm pretty sure its a single set of action bars.

I've finished with the Colt. Mama says the old man slathered all that stuff up with vaseline. Seems really wrong to me, but there was definitely a pile of dried out brown crap all up in everything. I completely disassembled it, cleaned it, properly lubed it and put it back together. I took a few pics which I'll put up a little later. Gonna go start on the 500 now.

Despite the ridiculous amount of rust on it, it must be newer than mine at least. It is a double slide and comes apart completely different than my old 500. It actually seems a lot easier. I’m taking pics as I go and will put them up later.

Yes, you should be able to do it with a punch.
