What are your requirements to get a license out there?
This is a renewal so a 2 hour class and then go to range to qualify. $65 for class and for the paperwork, $10 to pay for the range, $75 sent with application for new license--they use picture off your drivers license. In 2 years have to go to range to re-qualify on handgun. If you don't re-qual they revoke license. If it's your first time it's $150 dollar for 2 day class and then range fees plus fees the state charges. It takes about 6-8 weeks to get license if no problems. Also if first time you need to get electronic fingerprints, forget what that costs but it has to be from state approved business.

Here in Illinois we have to take 16 hours including range time when we first apply for a FCCL. 16 hour class will cost around $200.00 then you have to pay $150 for the license and it is good for 5 years. We have to fire 30 rounds . 10 rounds at 5 yards , 10 rounds at 7 yards , and 10 rounds at 10 yards.

To renew we take a 3 hour class with range time again with 30 rounds fired at the 3 distances. the 3 hour class cost $60.00 and then you get to pay the $150.00 for renewal license. Illinois is broke so they have to steel all the money they can at every chance. We don't have to do any shooting again until we have to renew.

On top of all that we have to pay a small fee of $3.38 for the convenience of the state letting us do the submission online. Of course there is no other way to do it.

So far since Jan. 2014 , when I first sent in for the FCCL here in Illinois , until 6-1-24 $460.29 just on the license and 2 renewals . I moved in 2016 and had to update my carry license and my FOID card which cost me $81.88 ( $75 for FCCL and $5 for FOID card plus the small fee of $1.88 )

All of the above doesn't include the training costs. Have I ever said anything about Illinois sucking ....

My last renewal was just mailed in. New permit arrived in about 2 weeks. 😁
In Tennessee you no longer need a permit to carry. But most of us who already have one renew it anyway if you no other reason than for reciprocity with other states. In my case I'm right in the southwest corner and sometimes go to Mississippi or Arkansas. Both of which honor the TN permit. Plus about 30 other states as well. ;)

I guess I was lucky on getting mine renewed! About 1 month or so passed since expiration, so went online and did necessary renewal...........less than 2 weeks I get the new license in the mail............gotta love Texas! Makes 4473's faster!
I got my concealed carry license about a year after the program started in Texas. I think after my second range qualification I no longer needed to qualify again. No longer needed more fingerprinting or photos. For renewal now the state does a background check and uses my drivers license photo. I apply for renewal on line pay with a credit card and renew for 5 more years. Might have some of this wrong, crappy memory.

They used the same photo and nothing else was required. I did my qualification with a 357sig g31.

We can open carry here in MN, but you don't see it (at least in these parts). Our licenses are linked with our driver's license or state ID, and are good for 5 years. Courses vary in content, depending on the instructor and his/her affiliate. Courses run between $60 and $100+ and generally cover all taxes and fees. They offer us a Florida add on for $20 (which is just an envelop with forms and a fingerprint card inside - when you apply you have to send a payment of $92 and the license is good for 7 years). The MN courses typically run 4 hours in the classroom and 2+ hours at the range, depending on the size of the class. We were required to shoot 20 rounds (10 rounds per mag) at 7 yards. Very basic, nothing fancy. If you put holes in the paper safely, you pass. Sadly, that is the extent of training for most people. I didn't want to be one of those people.

Hi,

Going this saturday to class then shoot to renew. Starts at 0700 and ends? Hope there isn't a lot of people, it's going to be at least 100 outside. I'll be good for the next 4 years.

Good luck on your quest. I hope your renewal goes smoothly.

In CA it was quite a process to get a concealed carry permit. State test for a firearm safety certificate just to buy a handgun, waiting periods, finger prints, FBI background check, class time, range qual, a reem of paperwork, fees totaling almost $500. It was a seven month process. Covid restrictions at the time slowed it down a little. Some counties are "may" issue and some are "shall" issue. I was fortunate my county sheriff wanted to give as many law abiding citizens as possible the ability to defend themselves. In other counties it's almost impossible. Then you have to renew every two years.

Later I moved to the Wild Wild Upper Midwest, applied online, paid $40, and got my permit in the mail 7 days later.

Because of the 2A, I'd like to see Federal legislation to make the process more uniform with total reciprocity.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff
