South Dakota-based Black Hills just picked up a $42 million, five-year contract (below) from Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane for 5.56mm Long Range, Special Ball, MK 262 MOD 1 Ammunition.

Introduced in 1999, Black Hills guarantees its 77-grain MK 262 MOD 1, which has a velo of 2750 fps, with sub 2″ groups (.64 MOA maximum/10-shot groups). Commercially packed BH MK 262 rounds “good price” at about $1.42 a round, translating the Crane award to being worth at least 30 million rounds, hopefully more.

Crane is right down the road from me. We did some range time thwre in the Air Guard and they brought out some refurbished 1911’s and needed help test firing them.
We obliged!!!!!

That place is awesome and good to hear!

I wonder how the IMI razor core 77g matches up to the Black Hills? I bought 500 rds of each the 308 175gn Sierra OTM long range razor core and 77gn 5.56 razor core. I'm not for certain right now cuz it's not in front of me but I thought they both were Sierra OTM bullets.
My Remington 700 308 with a 26" barrel will put 7 of them through quarter sized area at 250 yrds. There's usually at least one or two flyers, most likely my fault truth be told 😉
No doubt BH is great stuff. I've not shot that particular ammo but all the ammo of theirs I have shot has been impressive.

I’ve bought Black Hills for decades…their factory 2nds were indistinguishable from their regular ammo, and shot just as well.

Think I still have some of their 168gr SMK .308 Match.
