The air war in North Vietnam is perhaps THE classic example of mismanagement by letting politicians make military decisions. I firmly believe the politicians job is merely to give the military a mission, say “do it and if you need anything let us know” and then let the professional handle the decisions on “how” to accomplish the mission.
