Do You Carry While Doing Yard Work?

I know I haven’t, not wanting to sweat all over one of my guns 😃, but then I read this. While I know this was more of an execution style killing that the unsuspecting victim never saw coming, it does give me pause.

I do try to keep situational awareness at the forefront while doing my yard work (tracking if anyone is walking down the street towards my house; if anyone else is outdoors near me when I start, etc.), but there are “very short” times when my back is toward the street if cutting grass South-North (I alternate South-North and East-West tracks to help grass).

I’ll certainly give further critical thinking to carrying while in my yard.

I usually slip a small .380 into my pants/shorts while doing yardwork out front.
Occasionally we have some dogs that get free down the street and they are not very nice. Snarly bastages.
I carry for them and other 4 legged furballs that have bad tempers.
Had to put my lawn mower between me and them one time. Not happy.
The CC is my last ditch defense. I dont want to drop a dog, but if it tries to latch on to me, I want to be able to stop it rather than play ring and the mower…

I live out in the country in South Texas. I sometimes run into rattle snakes. I open carry a S&W Governor in a chest holster loaded up with .410 game loads. Since I live out in the country, no one except maybe my neighbor might see me open carrying. So I don't care about what others may think of open carry in my situation. Probably 90% of the time I have run into snakes has been when I'm mowing on my zero-turn mower. The chest holster is the best option of getting to my pistol while mowing.

Do You Carry While Doing Yard Work?

I live in a rural area of northern AZ with all types of wildlife and a lot of suspicious looking construction workers. I can't predict what's in someone else's mind or if a mountain lion, bobcat, javelina or rattle snake may get to close. Yes I carry from wake up to bed time.

Long ago when I did yard work I always carried as some of the yard work was a long ways from the house. When I go outside I always carry and have for more years than I care to say and my son and daughter do as well. As I have become less mobile with age they would like me to live with them if my wife passes B4 I do but that's still in the discussion stage.

yes, yard work, washing the cars, whatever...

my neighborhood is the "United Nations" of the whatevers come over here from.

then there are roving homeless, the occasional drunk, or stoner.

not to mention the various street gang bangers, that cruise the hoods, in search of thier enemies.

otherwise, its quite quiet and peaceful here.

If you are going to carry, carry. All the time. All day. Everyday. Ponder this a moment. If you KNEW when you would need a pistol wouldn’t you just avoid that time/place? I know I would. Point is, you do NOT know-therefor you need to be ready all the time. That means ALL the time. That $3k 1911 isn’t going to do you any good if you are attacked in the backyard. I live in the country on a farm, but even here, with no one normally within a few hundred yards of us, I still put on a pistol when I put on my pants. It’s a dangerous world we live in. You almost certainly will never need a pistol, But if you do, you need it badly and you need it right now..

I should, but I do not. My yard work consists of cutting trees, hauling brush, rocks and falling down while doing so, burning large fires and tending them, etc. Lots of sweat. In the country. At minimum, I should have one close by though. I've had one incident where I wanted one. We live on 6 acres on a dead-end private drive which is marked as such. I was in my shop and my wife in the house when an pigpen, unbathed Charles Manson looking dude on a beat up motorcycle rumbled by the shop, stopped, and turned around. I came out and asked him what he wanted. "How much is your place worth?" he askes in a stoned way. "I have no idea. This is private property," I answer. "How do I get out of here?" He asked. "The same way you came in," I answered. He left.

One of my worst fears is being killed by a lowlife human. I'd be one humiliated ghost. Much rather be killed by a Grizzly.

Now see, that's where ya messed up, shoulda knocked him out while on the bike, chained him to a tree out in da woods, fed him fish heads and terlet water. dirty terlet water too. but only pick trees you want down and give him an ultimatum, look feller. that tree yer chained to i want down so yer gonna chew it in half in one day or i'm gonna shoot you in the kneecap. then when you get that one down just knock him out and move him to the next tree you want down.

I passed by your place the other day and saw your sign. I thought I heard banjos playing in the distance, so I didn't stop.
