Global Warming. Look, since kindergarten these kids have been brainwashed by the public school system that their grandparents screwed them with their cars and air conditioning and industrialization, so the planet is going to end in X years. Why waste time getting an education or a good job when you are going to be dead before you hit 30? Might as well get all you can now as quick as you can. Add violent video games and non-stop internet and you get a bunch of kids that well, act like this. Nobody at home is telling them any differently. It is a vicious cycle.

Agreed. There are some truly amazing children who have developed tremendous skills and insight despite peer pressure.

Used to do TS background investigations for the alphabet agencies. 98% of the candidates were squared away kids. When I talked to co-workers or neighbors was when I realized that we had a problem. Talked to so many who were also-rans with no ambition, no drive and became hostile when asked questions. So for every good kid, there seemed to be about 4 slackers. Was very discouraging.
