Interesting article on 4 cleaning secrets, I can’t remember where I read this but it stated to let your gun go for a day after taking it to the range, something about expansion cracks will close as your gun cools and you will get a better cleaning then, in the barrel. True or not, I don’t know…….

Four Cleaning "Secrets"

Let’s face it: Gun cleaning can seem overwhelming to the newcomer. Poking my head into Brownells, there’s hundreds of different cleaners, degreasers, oils and devices — and just as many opinions among shooters about which ones to use and how often to use them.

1) i don't know about that Hoppes Tornado steel brush, in my revolvers chambers.....

2) there had been a "couple" of times, i was dead tired when i got home from the range, and did not clean my gun right away....

the next day, the carbon had hardened(??) more than usual, and was a bear to remove.

so now i make it a point, no matter how tired i am, the gun gets cleaned as soon as i get home.

i think, and it's just me, that cleaning and lubing after a range visit is best, especially for the newbies, which this article seems geared for.

and.................let that old debate....................get started............

by time get home. my firearms are cold
at the range i run a bore snake through as i put them in the bags.
at home they get torn down to parade rest and cleaned
1st with dry nylon brush to knock off any free standing stuff in barrel
then its a light patch with cleaner and run til clean and then light oil with a new patch
clean the rest of the parts with whatever brush or patch is needed to get in the crevices
re-assemble and wipe down to remove excess oil and stuff


NOW...if i only shoot 100 rounds ...it may not get cleaned for days, other than a bore snake

I don't let them sit dirty for long. A couple weeks ago I went out for just a little fine tuning on the dot on my VP9. Shot about 20 rounds. I tried as hard as I could to just let it alone, but the next day it got to me and I cleaned it.

i was going to answer @powerboatr response of only 100 rounds, but let it go, cuz the minimum i usually shoot is 50 rounds.......

so yeah, i too clean after a small amount of shooting...its a habit i got into from day 1

also too, i do shoot a lot more reloads, and the Bullseye powder i was using is quite dirty.

i haven't really tried shooting my new reloads with the TiteGroup yet.
 
Cowboy pistols can continue after many, many rounds and still function quite well. The long guns will get crunchy since they reside in a cart with actions open if there is a stiff wind. Call it a desert action job. Some folks use covers to mitigate this. My view is that it causes me to clean them more often, kinda like a calendar reminder.
 
Semi Auto 22LRs get a bore snake after each range trip. I break them down every other month and do a deep cleaning. Rifles get cleaned at the range before going home. Revolvers and semi auto pistols get cleaned after each range trip. Hear shooters often say, my gun is not working and the next time. I cleaned it and it's back up and running. I was never a fan of letting items I purchased be dirty. Well maybe for my flower beds.
