Guide - How to Clean & Lubricate a Gun

There are a number of cleaning and oiling articles out there and I do recommend reading or viewing them from time to time. The guy in the video is oiling a gun much more than I would, maybe that's just me. I use a needle oiler to lube my pistols. Some like to run a wet gun. I would think that would be more important for a dirty gun or one with many rounds through it. I clean mine somewhere between 200-500 rounds or do a quick clean if carried a while. I consider a dirty gun to be covered with abrasive stuff that is detrimental to the actions. Lubing doesn't necessarily clean this from the firearm, so is the oil slippery enough to overcome the abrasives? I don't really know, but these guns are money and I don't like to waste it. Consider your environment, too. Shooting around here on a windy day causes fine dirt and grit to enter into your gun. Oil will catch this stuff and by the end of a session, you may find your gun is no longer operating as smoothly as it did. My pump shotguns are really sensitive to this type of "desert action job."
I have a box of products purchased over time. I would rather shoot than clean, so I've bought products that promised to do it quicker, easier, etc. Some are better than others. Rust prevention is also a consideration. Most cleaners and oils do clean and lube, but only a few are better at rust prevention. Do a search and check it out.

i got into the habit, out of the gate, to clean and lube after every range visit, even IF i only shoot 1 box of 50 rounds.

i do not want to "just add oil" to a gun that will mix with the carbon and other blow back particles.

to me, that's like making sandpaper, and i just ain't gonna do it.

nope, it's a field strip, then spray the frame as well, and use a "pancake" air compressor to blow out the frame, then the bronze barrel brush, and other assorted cleaning tools.

then either Weapon Shield or Hoppe's 9 oil.

and just like opinions on when to clean..??

we all know that there are like 4,231,769,098,348,222,985,221 opinions on what lube to use, from all 300 of us members here.....:eek:

Bore solvent is for people that don't clean their guns after they shoot them. Everyone else should use CLP on everything, including a snake going down your barrel maybe every coupla hunnerd rounds. If it don't build up and sit there, you don't need no stinking bore solvent.:p Little bit of nice oil, or grease if you prefer, in a few spots ( know your gun) and viola. Clean gun. I am right and anyone who disagrees is wrong, wrong, wrong.:oops::oops::oops::oops::oops:😁😁😁😁😁
