Hmmmm….
“This brings us back to the standard response concept: If you obtain two quick hits and the threat still exists, then firing additional rounds seems much more justified.”

So in concept, a double tap didnt stop the attacker, so 4 more shots were fired. So its “justified”
I’d be curious how they could determine based on shots to the body that 2 were fired, then 4 or just 6 at once ?
Cause a double tap then 4 single shots vs 6 shots is also tough to tell physically and hearing . Was it boom/boom, boom , boom, boom boom ? Or was it boom, x 6

So, I guess Justified is in the eye of the beholder

I guess with my 15+1 G20 I get 8 double taps, so it's boom/boom boom/boom boom/boom boom/boom boom/boom boom/boom boom/boom boom/boom
typing that made me cross-eyed!

If you put two in center mass and it doesn't stop the threat, put two in the head or two in the pelvic girdle. That will do it .

Use of deadly force cases are decided on the reasonable man standard. If you are justified under the law in using deadly force, you are explicitly justified in killing your adversary. Whether you fire one or two or ten shots or run over him with your pickup is hardly relevant if you are justified. Think of how ludicrous the contention that you only fired once because you didn't want to hurt him too much.

Where you will get into trouble is the extra shot, the coup de grace, after the imminent threat has passed.

The Rule of 3's is in play. Most lethal encounters occur at 3 yards or less, 3 shots are fired, and it is over in 3 seconds. Speed, power, and accuracy rule the day. You still need to practice at 25 against that eventuality, but we need to emphasize CQB distances a lot.

I practice double taps and failure drills at 1, 3, 5, and 7 yards every range session and teach those drills, and if you don't stop the threat, repeat. I tell them if asked why you fired 3 shots in rapid succession, the answer is because I was trained that way.
