Two things The Armory Life forum has taught me:

1. Every gun gun must be stripped and cleaned every time it has been fired.

2. A gun that has been stripped and cleaned can't be trusted to function again until it has been test fired.

As a result, I can't leave the house.
I am trapped in a never ending cycle of stripping, cleaning, and test firing.

The endless cycle
 
Pride in ownership is a thing, all of my guns look and function as they did on day one. Over 12k through xc in the last 14 months. Cleaned and lubed immediately after each range trip. Gun looks and runs as if brand new. I do not get in bed without a shower, you get the jist.... as a caveat, good excuse for a cold beer while at the bench in the cave.
 
I have to admit, I am a dirty gun owner when it comes to range toys. But defensive guns I carry I do keep cleaned and greased. When I reassemble it, even though I have stripping a 1911 since I got my first one at age 21, I do rely on a trick a Sherriff in Arkansas taught me when I was fifteen years old. After you have it together but before you load it, drop a pencil down the bore eraser first. Cock it and pointing in a safe direction, press the trigger. If it launches the pencil, you got it together right and it should pop a primer when you need it to. Just another one of those things like triple checking the locks and alarm at night. If I know it works, that is one less thing to worry about.

You missed #3 - never pass up the opportunity to buy a new clean gun and free up some of your time.
 
Oh well I'm have not always been a cleaner after firing my weapons after firing. Why? Because of where I was, what I was doing and how long I will be at that time. I really respect and admire all of you that maintain those standards 👍 I have a couple of weapons that are well over 25 years old and I believe a couple have had a bath three or 4 times but I give them a fluff and buff every once in awhile but I don't go to a range anymore and if I get lucky maybe in the next 3 to 5 years I may get to see my kids and make sure there still on target. Mine are ready for what could possibly be and will do there job like they have done b4. Have a great day and keep up the good work.
 
My first gun as a kid was a precious possession that I maintained with great care. A speck of rust or crud on a gun is an insult to my sensibilities.

Later in life I was taught to clean and maintain my weapons like my life depended on it. Because it did. Old habits die hard. If I fire my carry gun on the range and then holster and carry it from thecrange, it will prey on my mind until I have cleaned and lubed it. My proclivities have led me to develop a rapid cleaning regimen so I am not stuck in the house like Lo-Profile.

Plus, I take a shower and brush my teeth and put on clean underwear every day
