So it was time to take my Kimber K6s 2” (.357/.38 Sp) to the range for a shoot and good cleaning after. Along for the ride was my CZ Shadow 2 Carry, wearing a Holosun EPS Carry Green Dot.
For each, I fired two sets of my favorite drill. In order:
3 yards - 5 rounds to each shoulder, slow fire
5 yards - 10 rounds center as soon as on target, from ready
7 yards - 10 rounds center as soon as on target, from ready
15 yards - 5 rounds, slow fire
3 yards - 5 strings of 2 to center, 1 to head, as soon as on target, from ready
Since I forgot to take initial shot as range, here’s a shot before I get to cleaning them!
Here is target #1 after two rounds of the drill above. Iron sights, white dot x 3. First round was with Speer Clean Fire 124g FMJ. Second round was with Speer Gold Dot 135g Gold Dot, Short Barrel.
At least I didn’t miss too many! I did seem to hit all at 15 yards…well, unless I missed whole target
. I think I’ve mentioned many, many times that I suck with irons due to wearing trifocals and a lifelong astigmatism. Pretty much I always see two front sights, and blurry at that. I know I can get specific shooting glasses to help, but would that be what I’d see if I choose to employ this gun in self defense?
Next up was the CZ Shadow 2 Carry with Holosun RDS. Again, 2 rounds of the drill above, all with American Eagle 124g FMJ. I can say with 100% certainty that “FOR ME”, using an RDS improves my accuracy considerably. YMMV!
It was a quick range trip, only 100 rounds each gun for total of 200, about half of what I usually shoot. Really just a “verify you’re maintaining the shooting fundamentals” trip. But, as always, a good time!
