It's Fort Bragg again.

On February 10, 2025, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth signed a memorandum renaming Fort Liberty in North Carolina to Fort Roland L. Bragg. The new name pays tribute to PFC Roland L. Bragg, a World War II hero who earned the Silver Star and Purple Heart for his exceptional courage during the Battle of the Bulge.

We have at least 4 army forts here in Va one of which should have been renamed for Desmond Doss. In my opinion Doss is a shining example of courage and sacrifice. I think Lee, Hill, or Pickett would have approved because like them he was a native son of Virginia.

I've been to Hill back in '80 or '81 in August. Didn't get to see much, but did hear a lot of practicing. We (boy scouts) had a 10 day stay that was fun. They had a rifle range setup for the scouts run by Green Berets. They couldn't believe that a 15yo could shoot like that. I reminded them I was a country boy that's been shooting 10 years.

I remember when the Boy Scouts held their summer jamboree at A. P. Hill. Did the President appear at that one?

Nope. This was during the air traffic controller strike or almost starting. We were told there's a chance that we would be returning military transport. Didn't happen as controlers hadn't striked yet. Oak Ridge Boys and Verl Ives (supposedly a boy scout) were the entertainment.

I do note that they changed the name to honor a different Bragg. Originally it was named for Confederate General Braxton Bragg. A soldier of mixed achievements. Nathan Bedford Forrest absolutely hated the man, refused to serve under him and even threatened to kill him several times.
