Jellicoe weeps and Nelson isn’t taking calls any more

With the hectic week in the Persian Gulf and Arabian Sea, the absence of the Royal Navy in a region that was a British lake for generations was noticed.

Then, with Iranian drones hitting the RAF Akrotiri base in Cyprus in the eastern Mediterranean, a response was needed from the Admiralty.

Then news came that only two of six Type 45 destroyers are operational, and the one that can get to Cyprus the quickest, HMS Dragon, can’t leave port until next week at the earliest. At least Dragon will deploy with two Royal Navy Wildcat helicopters armed with Martlet drone-busting missiles.

Couldn't care less. "Our greatest alia" has been anything but since November 28, 1990. A paper tiger strutting around like they are still the empire were the "sun never sets". Now the Royal Navy can't even get out of port, and that isn't their biggest problem. "The radicals in charge of the UK are abandoning jury trials". Independent sentinel

This “emergency “ really shows how much the Brits have fallen. If Russia were to threaten NATO, how well would they react. The British Army on the Rhine (BAOR) has long suffered.

Britain isnt Britain anymore. Its a shame because they sure used to be a Kick-Butt military. I remember the Falklands. Considering the distance, that was a pretty well conducted operation. I got to liaise with a British Army MP unit during the first Gulf and they were still Tier One then

Im guessing its like everywhere else, not the military but the politicians controlling the funds AND deciding on missions

Not sure what you mean. In the Gulf War we had the 7th Lancers deployed next door and a UK EW unit co-located with us on the Saudi-Iraqi border. The remainder of an Armored Division was with coalition on the attack. Their Navy I'm not sure about.
