I never knew that about the origin of the word (Divine wind). Thanks for sharing.
Interestingly, the fleet was gathered for Operation Olympic (invasion of Japan.). Invasion never happened because of the surrender, however the fleet was struck by a typhoon at the time the invasion Would have occurred. It inflicted a Lot of damage on the fleet but did not garner much attention at the time because the war had just ended and that was “the news”. Stories I’ve read about it claim that had the invasion occurred on schedule the fleet would have been in serious trouble…
