if you're having trouble matching up your .308/AR10 receiver and handguard heights.

RECEIVER HEIGHTS BY BRAND:

The list below should cover a majority of .308 rifles you may encounter. But, when in doubt, contact your manufacturer directly to be sure.

HIGH-PROFILE RECEIVERS
  • Aero
  • Aero M5
  • Ballistic Advantage
  • Diamondback
  • DPMS A2 (tall)
  • Grey Ghost Precision
  • Mega
  • Rock River Arms
  • Stag
LOW-PROFILE RECEIVERS
  • Black Rain
  • DPMS LR-308 A3
  • Diamond Head CM10
  • PSA
  • Smith & Wesson 308,
  • S&W M&P 10
G2 is “its own animal” and is not “High” or “Low”

The LR-308 receiver sports a rounded rear facing, whereas AR-10 and SR-25 upper receivers are slant-cut. This prohibits using an AR-10 upper on a DPMS lower, and vice versa. Barrel nuts (and thus handguards/rails) are also incompatible: DPMS uppers use a 1-7/16" x 16 thread pitch for the barrel nut, but AR-10 uppers use a 1-7/16"-18 thread pitch.

NOTE: DPMS introduced two versions of their .308 platform's upper receiver, sporting "high" and "low" profiles. This only affects the height of the top rail by 1/16" and does not inhibit parts compatibility between the two generations.

There are some companies that use Armalite/SR25 cut receivers that are dpms compatible (excluding the interchangeability with upper and lowers). Barrel nut threads (I've found out by receiving the wrong barrel nuts) are different for sure. I have 2 Armalite cut receivers that (MEGA Arms) are dpms usable. There are a few others that like them also (can't remember which companies tho). Gen2 use a different bcg than dpms/armalitte/sr25's (not sure about receivers). Gen2 is similar to sfar, but not compatible.
