M1 Garand Reloading with Modern Components and Tools

Got to me careful with loading for the "old girl" since it was set up to operate with a certain powder - IMR 4895. and pressure. Reloading should stay with powders with nearly the same burning rate as 4895, and avoid "hot-rodding" the loads to avoid op-rod damage.

The NRA published M2/30-06 "ball equivalent" load is

50.0gr of IMR 4064 and a 150gr bullet, or 49.0gr of IMR 4895 and a 150gr bullet.

You should work up to these levels following the procedures for load development in your reloading manual.

However, you can load up heavier bullets within these same parameters. I've used 168's, and have a lot of the older 173's to use.

I built up a heavy-barreled long-range 30/06 bolt gun to "hot-rod".
