Thanks. Local gunsmith. Some corrosion/pitting and one of the lands has broken away. Rifle purchased second-hand about 10 years ago, so it's more than likely way beyond any warranty.Who told you the barrel needs replacing, and why?
Been checked, all else is good to go. "Been well looked after but the barrel's past its use by" was the verdict, but I'll confer with Fulton about further checks. Thanks for the advice.If the barrel is in that bad a shape then the rest of the rifle needs a thorough evaluation by a gunsmith very skilled in M1As to check the rest of it, especially the op rod.
Besides a new barrel, at a minimum it likely needs new springs.
