M1A Socom Walnut vs Synthetic dimensions

I am deciding between a walnut or synthetic for a Socom. I am a traditional blued steel/walnut kind of man. I was at a local gun store today & they had a synthetic Socom & walnut Scout. The Socom felt great in the hands. the Scout kind of clunky chunky almost hard to get my hands on. Is this the way it's been on these stocks always? I seem to recall handling them both about 8-10 years ago & didn't notice a difference. Also, has anyone sanded down the walnut to make it a bit trimmer (especially of the frond 1/2 of the stock)? I wouldn't want to compromise the integrity of the stock. Any advice?

I always liked wood stocks on my rifles when I owned some, just me

Depending on where SA gets their stocks for each model could result in the forearm &/or grip area feeling fatter with the wood ones vs. the molded synthetic SOCOM stocks.

If you want to try to "gradually" sand down a wood stock then go for it, I just wouldn't wack away at one. An option would be to buy another wood one to fiddle with vs. the OEM one.

I custom fit a Chinese Chu wood stock to my hand using a file and then some sand paper, Chinese stocks typically feel like a 2x4. The project turned out really well, but I have yet to finish it.
