May Day parade in East Berlin

While I was stationed in West Berlin with the Berlin Brigade my buddies and I would often go to the Checkpoint Charlie observation platforms and watch the East German Army’s version of the USSRs May Day WW2 Victory Parade.
We were in civilian clothes and brought a cooler full of beer. Sometimes we’d bring a Playboy magazine and show the centerfold to the East German soldiers while yelling “MADE IN THE USA!”.
I found it strange that the East Germans were celebrating a WW2 Victory celebration event. Mandatory Fun, Mother Russia style.
PS: I always took my camera and took a lot of pictures but when I turned them in to get developed they would say when I picked them up that not all of the pictures could be developed.🤔

I should mention that this was at the Peak of the Cold War. The Berlin Wall was still up. The estimated ratio was 38 Warsaw Pact soldiers for every 1 Allied (US, UK, and France) soldier. Our nearest Allied Military base was over 210 miles away. Needless to say if the 💩Hit the Fan we had one hell of a fight on our hands. That’s why we focus our training primarily on In-City fighting.
We even practiced using the sewage tunnels to move around the fight.
