All the issues with the aircraft, & others of the time, were typical of the Gen 2 US jets.

these must have been the planes that were pushed over the edge of the ship for high dollar fish habitats.

That bird was the poster child for everything that didn't enhance its performance. But as with all things, she was a stepping stone to better aircraft.

Without the Demon, there wouldn't have been a Phantom.
