Watched them for years low level to and from Loring AFB, Presque Isle, ME .
We were south of the base on the flight path. Witnessed lots of low level flying from Number 9 mountain

When I was a kid we lived by Griffiss AFB, in upstate NY. My stepdad was stationed there twice. He was a boom operator. Those things flew over all the time. After a while you don’t even notice.

Before Amarillo International/Husband IA was just an AFB I think it housed b52's along with Tinker AFB (OKC). I've seen c5a's there along with other smaller c rated planes. A person from my local town was either a crew member or a pilot of one before retirement. Definitely a big plane!

Also Amarillo was an alternate landing site for the shuttle. Would've been cool if it landed there. The strip is 2 miles long or so.

There's just something about carpet bombing that tends to get the enemy's attention. If it works, keep using it.
Likewise, they've tried to replace the A-10 several times. But nothing else works as well in that role.
