new ambi

it's nice to have, but not at this price!

if it were in ar10, then it's a fair price (still a little high for that). they make quality products, but still no way! i shoot all long guns south-pawed mainly and is why i add many ambi products to my ar's.
Agreed the price isn't worth the features. Aero is making a mistake with that kinda pricing for a lower with mild upgrades. I build a lot using Aero M4E1 lowers and those can be had for around $100.00.

I have 1 of their early semi-ambi (bolt release/catch only) lowers which was ok, but not the best design at a marginally price increase. Many of their non-enhanced lowers are on sale for $50 or so. If the price was $150-200 then it would be on par. $250 for a large frame lower would be priced right. I've seen some sets of ambis in large frame for $450-600 depending on material.

Ambi is a nice extra feature to have but it's kinda useless unless the person using it is a lefty or shares the ambi rifle with a lefty.

Not ever having developed a lot of interest in the AR platform, I've never really thought too much about this ... but is there an AR lower built as a left hander? Being a left handed shooter, with exception of one shotgun back about 50 or so years ago, I've always made do with regular right handed firearms and today I'm probably as proficient as most any others who use the right handed guns and are south paws. Don't want one, just curious.

Actually now that I think about it a little closer, the lower is considered 'ambi' by virtue of simply a left handed safety. But in my opinion there are many guns with ambi safeties, but that doesn't really make them (the gun) left handed. On an AR platform it's the upper that would have to be converted to be a true left handed firearm. Right?

While all the controls are for both, the ejection port side really doesn't matter. There are left-handed scopes also to complete an all left-handed setup. I understand about being proficient using a right-handed firearm as that's all I had to use. I don't write with my left due to being taught to write with my right. It mostly made me ambidextrous in many things (golf isn't 1 of them or throwing with my left).

I always found the right side ejection to be a hindrance because it flings the empty right across my line of sight. Some though are much less noticeable than others. My Ithaca mod37 ejects out the bottom so no problem. My Thompson Center Encore is break action so it doesn't bother me. The only gun that I use regularly that does make it an issue is my Remington 700 Classic, but to work the bolt on it I've learned to drop the stock just a little from my shoulder and work the bolt with my right hand while holding/balancing the weight of the rifle with my left on the pistol grip. I can usually get by with my Mod94 Winchester while working the lever with my left hand because it ejects out the top and typically goes up and over my head.

I was never forced to learn to write with my right hand so still write with my left, but I don't twist the paper all up crazy like some lefties do. However, my writing is slanted to the left when I write cursive. Printing I can go either way. I bat and golf right handed, but everything else I can think of I do left handed. I cant even scratch my behind with my right hand ... but luckily I can't brush my teeth with the right either!!!
