New Line Item On California Roster Of Handguns

Hi,

It must be quite inconvenient for manufacturers to get a new handgun on the CA roster. Between microstamping and extra "safety" testing by the state DOJ, it's probably quite expensive to enter that market. That discourages most manufacturers and keeps the latest, coolest, and safest guns out of the dealers. I used to go to the Ammo Bros store in Ontario occasionally.

Did I read something about CA imposing new extra taxes on gun/ammo sales? Has that taken effect? How much?

I retired three years ago and left the state. It's a beautiful place and I still have lots of friends there, but many of my friends moved out as well. I lived there from Reagan to Newsom and watched the Golden State become quite tarnished. I digress, but wish you well.

I enjoy my Eschelon 4.5F Comp. I will eventually install an optic or upgrade the sights. The U-notch is not being kind to me. I like it less than the square notch on my Glock. :p

Be sure to let us know when you're able to procure the Echelon and take it to the range. I used to train at LCFL and Burro Canyon.

Thank you for your indulgence ,

I'm not sure why the manufacturers even want to be in that market. They need to vote with their power and quit selling to the law enforcement agencies and to the public.
Stop jumping through hoops to sell in a state that hates everything about your business.
Maybe that will kickstart a coalition to start making a difference.

I get asked all the time what I'm doing here... great question. I grew up here, love it, but not the politics! People are nuts! CA is nuts, but someone has to fight the fight. Where I grew up, it was a small surf town, in high-school we would do a daily surf check and if it was good, we would go surf with our teachers, no joke! To this day I'm still friends with my teachers.

But for guns, it is a big market! I stick out like a soar thumb, my dad was from Utah, so I grew up hunting and shooting. It's crazy how any people shoot here. I'm working on some work arounds for the stupid 11% tax. There are a lot of loopholes that I take advantage of, others can't, which sucks for them.

Barrett did that with some Kali agencies who wanted to buy .50s. No sale.

With some of the limited budget at that time, of course no sales and justification for a 50. There a several out there and in use...on paper. We've gladly used up the ammo. It's like all the MP5's , $50K sub gun that isn't really in use.

Fast forward to today! Look at departments stepping up their game to get updated, Staccato is crushing it, I mean STI 🤣

I live in cali we love it here probably never move just deal with the BS . Like the last gun I am looking at is not on the roster but if it’s transfer from a ffl it legal tells me I better buy that gun or actually trade for it

11% added on top of around 11% normal sales tax for firearms. The recent increase was from $1 to $5 for the check for ammo purchases. Makes people buy a good amount at once now.

Met my wife here and we had 4 kids(5 grandkids now). She was born and raised here, and I doubt she'd leave for anything. Stuck with me for over 21 years in the Navy(mostly gone at sea) raising those kids. Would never force her to move. Waiting patiently for things to appear on the roster.

You need to use the intra familia transfer my friend

Wow. Yeah, I'd forgotten about that inconvenience, a background check just to buy a couple boxes of cartridges. And now it costs $5? Sure, buy in bulk. Sorry for the OT.

I'm still saving my gig money. I haven't decided whether to spend it on a Kuna or a Hi Point.
