So long story short, my initial range trip/FN Reflex test is posted here
That trip was so successful (as far as gun reliability), I was anxious to get the Holosun EPS Carry mounted that I had standing by for the guns arrival. So this morning, following FNs instructions, I mounted said optic on said gun (using Midwest Gun Works specific purpose screws I ordered for such an occasion). I did use 10 in-lb torque vice 6-8 in instructions as my Fat Wrench torque first shows a specific measurement at 10. I did forgo all thread locker per FNs installation instructions. There was something already applied to the screw threads.
Grabbing a box of Federal Premium LE Tactical 124g HST (non +P), which will be my preferred carry ammo for this gun, I headed to the range and set up at 7 yds, the distance I zero all my optics.
All zeroing shots are two hand standing, centered between walls.
First five rounds. Ugh, worst aligned Holosun I ever took out of the box!
Forget my notebook so didn’t keep track of clicks between each 5 round string, but there was a lot of adjustments. And a couple of ridiculous wild shots, all on me. Took me 30 rounds, or six 5 round string attempts, to finally optic where I thought it was zeroed for me. So 5 targets follow, each of the subsequent 5 round zeroing string.
Now that I had the optic zeroed where I thought I might want to leave it, I moved the target back to five yards and fired 5 rounds into circle #4 while leaning shoulder against left wall. No sense adjusting optic, obviously me. Next five went into circle #5, me leaning shoulder against right wall. A bit better, and I’m okay leave optic as is.
Following those 10, I still had 10 rounds left in the box so I moved target back to 3 yards, then fired 5 founds into circle #1 while leaning on left wall and 5 rounds into circle #2 while leaning on right wall. Firing those last 5 rounds into target #2, I now have a better understanding of “if you do your part”. This little gun is awesome and is now in my carry rotation. 250 initial no stoppage rounds, last 100 124 HST, both +P and not, and I would have to say this Reflex is as accurate as any gun I’ve owned/fired. All I have at the moment is the little cheap FN holster for it, but I have a C&G gun specific kydex on order, with Alpha upgrade, that should be here in a couple of weeks. I doubt I’ll carry this outside my house/yard until that arrives.
But this WAS certainly a fine day at the range (other than blowing through 30 rounds of HST to zero an optic).
For me, the optic...Hi,
That was a good workout. Your new pistol seems to be working out well. Sure, don't be afraid to take a little sandpaper to smooth out the seam and make it comfortable, just a little at a time until it's right.
My eyesight is not what it used to be. I've put an optic on just one of my pistols so far but I'm considering a second. With a little more practice and trainng I hope to feel confident with an optic as my EDC. It's a process. Thanks for sharing your journey. Your targets are looking pretty good.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff
