My SAR 48 appears to be an Israeli heavy chrome barrel machine gun I bought new in the eighty’s and unlike other SAR it’s stamping are not as well done as I’ve seen on other rifles. I believe this is because it was originally made for Israel forces. Only thing I can discern regarding its original purpose is that the selector lever has a poor weld on it’s internal lug to make it a semi automatic weapon. Jerry
