Range Report: 10y and 15y Precision Practice, 12/17/23

BassCliff

Hello friends,

I've been itching for a practice session at the range. My schedule has been a bit hectic around the holidays but I finally stopped over after church today. Since Mrs. BassCliff is out of town visiting her Mom for a few days, I just might be able to stop by two or three days in a row. One can never tell. ;)

This range is open until 4pm on Sundays so I was able to get in a couple hundred rounds of 9mm and .22 practice. I brought the XDM Elite and the Mark IV to my favorite lane, #1.

ABLVV87D7WRQQ1HVgwIGJgxLu6iyyH2gCxuoqPi_6r9WFHJyl5pvHpfE04LKOmBKfBv0mfByNtRIuguK8KzJt83D6G8hT-xP0bto1zzWQOwjIRUApujS8vDCp3e2bvI6FPWwyyjaPU5gS5Gui0a3Xg1STdyIIg=w1236-h927-s-no

Inside that box of Federal .22 was about 30 rounds left over from a box of Winchester Wildcat. I had no malfunctions at all today with either pistol or any ammo. I loaded up 20 rounds of the S&B 124 grain in the five magazines. I need to get a few more mags for the Mark IV. I started with a couple of 10-10-10 drills with the XDM but they were pretty lousy, scores in the 80s under the par time. Here are a few of my slow fire targets.

ABLVV85BaNRj5l5Rh22ZPbeet1h8We5ywlH-lwGGF2lhkx767jydJoifPhz3yc4k5Akjm4pYDjGtO4B9vUZ7wygOIjJxuN0K5MrwsyxR1CayQj_MpB1A2NpgPQ8ZyMRrEpz6KxzfuYKowMNl2bkKmkac7Avybw=w1236-h927-s-no

Since I had 20 rounds in the magazines I just sent them all. If you give me the line break above I count only three out of the black. This is at ten yards distance. Let's see if I can tighten that up a bit.

ABLVV84PR-5NWZ6O-KnIf2zoI1kdyfNRZ1nYPNrD1gZT_0MsqiuBBFFa48nyCOSyw1_kchPFRC1JVQ1x2Us18HZY3qpFzZ3IWJadKsLPFPpbU_XGVF3FnSVvT_ktnUYIkGeweVfzPG46YCZ7LhOv2WbnLhdACA=w1236-h927-s-no

There ya go! At least they are all in the black for this 20 round string. It looks like 16 of the 20 shots are inside the 10 ring. That's pretty good for this old noob. How about a glam shot with the XDM? :ROFLMAO:

ABLVV84L6TgS7Nsf3onqOIMxr-gPOpvui1e7BqM4CSaAy1jY3qE6X4ssRccKGDyOEiDlQQa5Iqs2PhR4WXkNoHCJ5TGh8zWuMAIqoaKHk0oPn8xi9n9rnhrPtR8jGxRA0MoBuY3gpJWlCTFtJo3OEH-ONysdwg=w1236-h927-s-no

OK, I'm feeling a little more confident so let's do some work at 15 yards. I stuck on an 8" reactive circle, pushed it out a bit farther, and it came back like this.

ABLVV85gsXeC_Y9loDmY2T3LQ0ok9KFPuIvJijnWNlgBhiqZP5lkrrDQ37jt8azsz_kPhykthRdIMQetqLGcrziqSVnuXOhXCHT2DZQ-LW1nWiVDwowK_sLbgERd_7MRF5-SmDGwSwvUqwNOqfBy2k7FHr9xNg=w1236-h927-s-no

Drat. My grouping spreads out a little but there are just a couple of hits outside the 8" circle. Let's try another 20 rounds on another target at 15 yards.

ABLVV84L58Dhc3S9KAlA0Ymgq4hSRtF6pdonoyFB_pi2BQLZD4wymkDAlcPzTVQ-98f6D6RdFilEaJLFKp0K0ydbTyYpJWF0Do2V09NHjexrlYpzPfqGRO-EfXi-AlAdZ9GVp9SxLmXjD3qhqG5HQRUHeqLMkQ=w1236-h927-s-no

I guess that's a little tighter group although I let a couple of hits get just outside the 8" circle. Oh well, I suppose that means I'm going to have to practice more. Oh darn.

That was 100 rounds through the XDM. Let's move on to my other "target" pistol, the Mark IV. Here are the first ten rounds at ten yards.

ABLVV87rM0gIldJBOHmjiOYl6Pnw2P-e3SbCDUAE6TuF83FU4npItZNIGQcTMur2clthyJnpWI2MP_pxYtu6YlpKX5Oc9OAfuvgAdv4ixVpooksg5iu20CBNrmQjZhobDDtMfFJmYxXBP9IEUpxcIRn6LtgSVw=w1236-h927-s-no

Hey! That's not too bad! Only one hit outside of the red bullseye. I may try adjusting the sights on this a little. I have to cover the bullseye with the front sight to hit right in the center. For this next target I'll put 10 on center and 10 on head, or at least try.

ABLVV84VxDruzdB-t0_QxOXDZ9WOwnjD4YcRlO6XxKxOt2ybODrOGaUSLkUPhWgefHmu4TwhKc2ER1UKBJJHAKJ9dBeSzT9YpTxz2jDr71XKCD59TXK8mkDIj9sg2n4yhU7DkF-3WvdcRgnfL81722YaKzgWZg=w1236-h927-s-no

Hmm, I let two out of the center bullseye and got all ten hits inside the 3" circle on the head. OK, it's coming along. Let's see if I can mess this up now. Let's patch it up and move out to 15 yards.

ABLVV86D7YEdwkmQgkIjQ4K6PvJqIvCW9ceotOWB2T68gGKMhC5zAa_IqnlEhCm5slPJFH1QHgMhV2SfqKMyKe7vFNF2YfSqfIjkqHHUwJuh9jqFiez1qc9zsfLfSs5mq1QXFgOTxxDml2FQ_nT7PpgAMT53sw=w1236-h927-s-no

Again, if you give me those very important line breaks, I let only two get out of the 4" circle. At least there were 18 hits on the inside, mostly. Let's patch it up and try another.

ABLVV85kD9H19mSd_uOHO77uvevE6VQP-qaRFH51Q87pYZp1A2amQ8JTpNYuPrZuztg9N1dV-5JY0mowPEEHtuBdkVh9jyBEATNr9rqTwlCF6dewagoX9hQ0uaQnADwIHPlMO88usrVksr8o_gA4z9pPNRsqWA=w1236-h927-s-no

Drat. This one has a few flyers. I think I'm rushing a bit because the range is closing early. Yeah, that's it. I'm going to patch this up and try 20 on center and 20 on head at 15 yards.

ABLVV85kRiH1EGwejvEstKLWDwek99041oLXJy7Lnlw2WOsTFtoB-0ECXyyioWackLkIBJFcFsr9jXtyW6WBvcq0nrRV3ULrpy8IccSJbjegRwIQxTe_wf-U5XcP1llA_uiRgxcdIltIjreU_J0Vwy_cOzAwYQ=w1236-h927-s-no

Yeah, I'm rushing a bit, not breathing properly. OK, before I go let's settle down, and use a fresh B-8 target with a 4" circle in the middle. I like the reactive targets, plus it gives these old eyes a little more contrast to help my aim. I sent the last two magazines downrange and the target came back...drum roll please...like this!

ABLVV86BP1KmM2LImeV0CtII4WJ-v0owF2hFn1pKejpbXhMrEoQLeZBTTqNe8_2GG5jy9xUnZhkpItHQYQYpBBKOYojalVUY9LNAM4iZP9Z4LrMQa8vbTF-YGbws0lHFaDijIpgwxggCTnUE_780-ZUQfka4gw=w1236-h927-s-no

It looks like I started a big ragged hole just to the left of that teeny weeny red bullseye, but still let a couple get just off the 4" circle. Con sarn it! Still, not a bad practice session. Here's a close up.

ABLVV84_zBW34ibLT1gtkoyz9rNqNgu2nlmf_h4pfU7Rb6AclZGKIxeiJnTzrq9AnJ6CoKx8FTkFnX1cj_xJVTc6KDQk7s-CdHtyHlZclqi7LhgujhGH5S22y82sAx5l5l4YtLkesVTsTqo0KwmNaHkdy1UJdw=w1236-h927-s-no

Once I can put 20 hits well inside that 4" circle I will push the target out again. I guess I'll just have to practice some more. Will it ever end? I hope not. ;)

When I got home I felt like taking inventory of my ammo. It's been a while. I pulled it all out of the closet. There was more in here than I thought.

ABLVV85L0Oxo1eJkvjs3Adui_bo-OuJg-hvJmkLJ-85z_hGQXG0-ItEtJriIjGAkPVP6EhtRvwpF1VCAW0YbBt8BjrasrpGHL9E8lHVnJKn5HNi580mg-OVs-POkF3dcpFUH2hFGqkFeW_EegGkgp2oCBgrlKA=w1236-h927-s-no

I've got a good bit of 9mm practice rounds but I'm a little light on .45ACP. I should probably stock up on some more JHP rounds too. I've just started collecting 12ga buck and target loads.

You guys are so good to stop by and have a look at my shenanigans. I'm going to try to make it out to the newer facility tomorrow for some more target practice with these "target" pistols. This week we also have a bowling pin shoot, Tuesday night. That should be fun. Stay safe out there. Merry Christmas!

Thank you for your indulgence,
