Hey gang!
I've been going stir crazy! I took it real easy for a couple of days so that I'd be able to visit the range this week and not feel out of sorts. I actually put on real pants today. I needed to get to the range today to pick up my new plinker anyway. I set my kit on the shelf while I did the 4473 dance.
The background check was taking forever to return so I did a little window shopping. For my "one of each" collection I'm looking at the G17L. I think it's cool.
OK! Finally the gub'ner decided I wasn't a threat to mankind and I was able to take my new plinker to a lane, my favorite lane.
It was going to be a pure .22LR session today but I did not get to shoot all of them. The background check took too long and I had too much fun with my new TX22 TORO. Once I got it on the lane I put a couple of drops of oil on the slide and had my way with her.
I did order extra 16-round magazines for the Taurus but they're coming in the mail. I could not find 22-round units in stock. I'll get a couple later. I brought six kinds of ammo with me to see what the TX22 likes to eat.
I shot at 10 yards today, beginning with the Armscor ammo. It's been notorious in my other semi-autos. But the Taurus had no problems with it. Both magazines dumped just fine.
I'll adjust my hold a little. If that doesn't fix it, I'll drift the rear sight a little. Here's the next couple of magazines using Aguila Super Extra.
That group's a little more centered. Again, both magazines, no malfunctions, 16-round and 22-round. Here's the next target with a couple mags of the Winchester Wildcat. That group is even tighter, despite the fact that I'm shooting too fast. It's too much fun!
The next batch of ammo was the Winchester Target and Game. I don't know if that ammo is less accurate or it it's just me. It's probably me. I did have a couple of FTF malfunctions with this ammo.
Then I loaded the mags up with Federal Champion, shot it too fast, but still ended up with a decent group, and only a couple of flyers.
I had a few malfunctions with the Blazer ammo.
The FTF mals all happened with the 22-round magazine. The bullet would fail to make it up into the chamber then the slide would bend the case. This did not happen with the 16-round magazine. I'll clean the mags and the pistol really good and see what happens next time.
I would drop the mag, remove the bent casing, shove another one in the mag, and keep going. My OCD wanted to make sure each target got the same number of hits. I ran out of B-8 targets so the Blazer was used on a 1/3 size silhouette.
The next time I take this pistol out I will take a little more time and try for better accuracy, at greater distances. This session was more to find out what the TX22 likes to eat. I took some leftover cartridges (Aguila, Armscor, Blazer) and filled up one last 16-round mag for the TX22 and tried, I said "tried", to slow down a little. No mals at all from this mag.
That's a pretty good group on this 8" reactive circle. I don't know where that flyer came from. I really like the trigger on this TX22 TORO. Now that I'm getting used to the sight picture and hold, I think this will be a pretty accurate pistol. It sure is fun to shoot. I think all the malfunctions will go away as it breaks in. I don't have much of that Blazer ammo but I have tons of the Federal Champion blue box.
Anyway, I did have a minute to shoot one more .22, the Heritage cowboy gun. I did not shoot the Walther P22CA or the Ruger Mark IV Target. Next time. Here's a few cylinders from the Heritage.
This is an SAO revolver with a hair trigger. Sometimes I forget and will let one go before I get fully back on target after cocking the hammer. If I really took my time with this one, it could be really accurate. Next time.
How about a glam shot?
That was my session for today. I took it easy because I'm still recovering from a surgery two and a half weeks ago. I mainly wanted to see what .22 ammo would work or not in the TX22. I'll stay away from the generic Blazer LRN but everything else seems to work just fine. Thanks for hanging with me. Blessings to all.
Thank you for your indulgence,
