Hey gang!
That's right! I took advantage of Mrs. BassCliff being out of town this week to the fullest extent, you might say. No, no hookers and blow. Just three trips to the range. Today was #3 in a row, a beautiful spring day here in the Upper Midwest. I went to the newer facility yesterday so today it was the closer/older facility to have my fun.
It just so happened that the target carrier on my favorite lane had been repaired and since I was the only person in the place, I took it.
I brought four targets today but used only one. I kept patching it up. I'm such a cheapskate when it comes to targets. But I've gone through 350 rounds of 9mm and about 500 rounds of .22LR in the last three days. Woot!
I brought the same two pistols that I've been practicing with the last three weeks. This morning I at least gave the TX22 a cleaning in the hopes that it would work better with the Aguila Super Extra (1255fps "high velocity"). I did not clean the Echelon, but it still won't fail.
I thought I'd jump right onto my favorite target. Here it is at 10 yards. This whole session is at 10 yards today. I started with the Echelon 4.5F Comp to work on keeping the sight picture steady all the way through the trigger pull.
Instead of 10-shot strings, I went for the big ragged holes. I wrote "44 rounds" on the target but it's really 42 rounds, both of the 21 round magazines on this target.
The first few were a little low left. I adjusted my hold a little higher and really paid attention to the sight picture during the trigger press. I guess that's better than yesterday but perhaps my hold was just a little too high. At least the consistency seems to be better. Then after patching the target, I tossed three of the 17 round magazines at the next target, 51 hits.
I had 7 cartridges left so I tried a few head shots. I seem to have an issue shooting above my line of sight. I'll have to work on that. You see only two hits on the head with one off to the left and the others too high. Oh boy! Something more to practice!
Then I started the TX22 TORO portion of my practice session. I loaded up all the magazines with the Aguila and had only two FTF/bent cases out of those 86 rounds.
Here is what the target looked like after that first round of lead slinging.
Sure, I could tighten up that group but it's fun to shoot this thing fast. I'm going to finish up that box of Federal Champion. I loaded up the four 16 round magazines and had a few left over. They'll get mixed in with the Aguila on the last magazine. I'm going to try some precision work now using the 1/3 size USPSA silhouettes.
The first target shows only one hit outside the A box. Drat. On the next target I used the A box and put a sticker for the head shots.
Drat, I let two get out of the A box but only one out of the head target. As I was putting hits on the next target I had a failure to fire from the Federal. (Gee, that was almost alliterative.) I stuck it back in the mag and it fired the second time. No biggie. It's .22 after all.
Anyway, I used the extended magazine (22 rounds) on the A box and the 16-round on the head shot. If you give me the line breaks there's only one out of the A box but a couple out of the head shot. This is so fun I start shooting too fast again and had to tell myself to slow down.
OK, it's time to get home and let my dog out. As I was leaving I asked the guys behind the counter if they had a Kuna in the store. I felt like fondling something. They said they had on in the store for a day, it sold right away. There were two at the other location and they both sold immediately too.
So instead I fondled a Glock 17L. If and when I get a Glock, it will be that one. I'm not sure which Hi Point I'm going to get.
I'm glad I got so much range time this week. I think I'm getting a handle on the Echelon's iron sights. Plus my schedule next week is pretty busy and I might not be able to fit in a range day. We'll see. I'm sure you all are very concerned.
