Say folks,
Yes, I'm back again for another session, second day in a row. I think I'll take tomorrow off and then go Sunday after church. But let's talk about this session first. After having a couple of pretty good targets yesterday, I was looking forward to today. I was hoping to build upon my momentum. I was so excited, when I got to the range I cleaned my shooting glasses. That's bound to make me shoot better, right?
The plan today was to get even more familiar with my new Echeclon 4.5F Comp and its sight picture. It's the only pistol I have with a U-notch and it's taken some getting used to. The young man at the counter gave me my favorite, lane #5.
I'd brought a few of the usual targets and 150 rounds of S&B 124 grain.
I shot mostly at 10 yards this session, but also a few targets at 12 yards and 15 yards.
There were a few other shooters at the range today but it got quiet for a minute so I decided to pull out my timer and run a cold 10-10-10 drill. I ran this one a little slower than yesterday, 2.03 seconds for the first shot.
The last shot was at 8.23 seconds, well under par time. But you can tell my accuracy was substandard.
If my math is correct, there is 85 points showing. However with a one second penalty for every hit out of the black, my time is way over par. Maybe next time. Next up is a few more B-8 centers with the bullet proof yellow dot followed by a few mini-USPSA silhouettes, all un-timed. Here's the B-8 #2.
There's the Cliff you all know and love. Let's hope I can get it together for target #3.
That's not too bad for this old noob. I went and put a couple in the yellow dot, even though my bullets are allergic to yellow. I know what you're thinking, the next target (#4) is going to suck.
Um, yeah. All I can do now is try to regroup for target #5.
With generous line breaks, only a couple out of the black, plus I broke the edge of that yellow dot. Woot!
Next up, I'm keeping it at 10 yards to try and full up the A-box on the 10x6 USPSA silhouette. Here's the first one.
Hmm, half in the A-box and half out. I should probably skip #2.
I know what's going on here. The guys in the lane next to me are shooting an AR-15 with a muzzle break. The concussion is a bit distracting. I'll try my best to overcome. Here's target #3.
Success! Again with generous line breaks, you can count 9 hits in the A-box. While I'm on a streak, I'm going to push the target out to 12 yards for the next string.
The 12 yard target comes back like this. Not horrible, except for that one flyer off to the left.
While I'm on a roll, let's get out to 15 yards.
I stuck on a yellow dot and actually hit it a couple of times. Only one flyer off the silhouette and six hits in the A-box. Yay me!
It seems this sight setup requires a harder (lower?) six o'clock hold than my other pistols. I'm really leaning toward swapping out the sights or just installing the optic that came with the "gear up" giveaway. I'll shoot this a couple more times before I decide. It seems I have a few seconds of sensational followed by minutes of mediocre.
Tell you what, I'll be right back in the next post to finish up the session. There's a 20 picture limit per posting. This seems like a good time for an intermission.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff
