Greetings Patriots!
Yes! I got in two trips to the range this week. I'll cover them both in the same thread. I'm not a bandwidth hog, right? I've even got a little video to share, as disjointed as it is.
This past Thursday I also treated myself to a free rental, a membership perk. I bought a membership at Fletcher Arms. They have two indoor ranges and my membership is good a both. I'll try not to bore you with regular practice sessions but they do offer defense classes that I hope to schedule in order to continue training and keep up what little skills I have. It wasn't too busy when I pulled into the parking lot in the middle of the day on Thursday.
I was assigned lane #10, my favorite lane!
It wasn't too terribly busy at the time so I was able to use my timer on some 10-10-10 drills. I shot only my 9mm pistols. I also rented a Ruger 1911 with a 5" barrel in .45ACP. You have to shoot their ammo in the rental guns. This box of Magtech was $32. Ouch.
This was my first, cold 10-10-10. Not too good. Overall I was a lot better last week than this week.
Maybe I was too excited to shoot a new gun. Yeah, that's it. I was forgetting my fundamentals. Shame on me. Targets #2 and #3 were embarrassing. I'm not even going to show you those. #4 wasn't too awful, neither was #5 but I don't know where that one is. The video should have #5 on it.
This was the 1911 I put 50 round through.
I took video of me shooting this pistol too but it's really embarrassing. The first time I pulled the trigger I forgot to flip the safety off. Oops. On top of that, I tried to put eight rounds in the magazine plus one in the chamber. Twice. On the second shot it malfunctioned both times. Then I figured out it's only a 7+1. Doh! Hey, eight rounds fit in the magazine so I crammed them in there. After I got over my stupidity it ran great and I shot it pretty well. It had a really nice trigger. Most of my practice was done like this, at ten yards.
Then I wanted to try a Hateful Eight drill, hence the "H-8" marking on the target. You'll see my attempt on the video.
These were my results from my first Hateful Eight drill. At least all eight shots were on the paper, just by the skin of my teeth. But the time was horrible, over 14 seconds.
I certainly need to practice this drill more and get used to my new mag carrier. I had three magazines concealed, which slowed me down on the reloads. Plus I was concerned where the magazines would be dropping. I would hate to have to call a cease fire just go retrieve a magazine on the other side of the bench. You'll see my un-glorious attempt in the video.
I shot Mrs. BassCliff's CW9 again. It still seems to go left but at least both magazines were on the paper this time, all but one inside the 8" circle at ten yards. (Spoiler alert! I practiced with it again just a couple days later and I think it's the shooter, not the sights.)
OK, as promised, here's the underwhelming video from this session. At least it's all I'm going to share. The rest is just too horrible.
I returned for a short session on Saturday. I'll share a few targets from that session in the next post. Thanks for putting up with me!
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff
