Greetings,
After vacuuming the whole house I made a quick trip to the closer/older facility today. I didn't want to be late because Mrs. BassCliff was making one of my favorite dinners, her pork chops and mushroom gravy. Yum! Anyway, I brought a few of my 9mm pistols just because they needed cleaning and I wanted to make sure they were good and dirty. I didn't want to dirty up any of my clean pistols. I got my favorite lane #1.
We have a guest in the lane today. I rented a couple of Glocks. I get free rentals but I have to shoot their ammo. So I bought a box of whatever they had behind the counter. It happened to be the same S&B that I had brought, only theirs was 115 grain and mine was 124 grain. I started with the G17.
I decided I don't hate the sights but I do not like the finger grooves on the Gen 3.
I guess the grip angle was a little different. That first shot was way low and left. But the rest weren't too bad. I'm shooting 10-shot strings at 10 yards all day today.
Can you really call this a "glam shot"? Can a cinder block be glamorous?
Let's tape on a B-8 center and try another magazine.
Guh! I guess the honeymoon's over. It seems I need to pay attention to my support hand. I also tried out a G19 just for grins and giggles.
OK, here's the first magazine through the G19. I put 20 rounds through the G17 and 30 rounds through the G19.
Hmm, I don't know why those hits went high. Perhaps I'm overcompensating. Oh, what the hey? Since this is the first time I've ever touched Glocks I might as well document the occasion.
I'll shoot two more 10-shot strings with the G19 and then move on to my own 9mm pistols. Here's mag #2.
I was out of the B-8 targets with the yellow "X" ring so I improvised with a sticker. (I forgot to print more before I left the house.) I have plenty of the mini-USPSA silhouettes. Let's put the last 10 hits on one.
I guess with a little practice I could shoot the Glocks better, but I don't want to. I brought the Glock back to the rental counter and said, "Thank you." Here's the first magazine with my XDM Elite Precision 5.25".
I'll shoot two more strings with the XDM. Here's the next one on the 1/3 size USPSA silhouette.
Hey, that's not too bad. In case you were wondering, that A zone is about 2x3.75 inches. Gimme a line break and they're all in the A zone. For the last magazine with the XDM I used an 8" reactive circle. I was really hoping to do a little better than this.
That really is 10 hits. Seems I put a few through the same hole. Let's move on to my new love, the VP9, string #1.
I'm a bit embarrassed with that hit in the 7 ring. I know I can do better. I'm out of B-8 centers now so we'll continue with the mini-USPSA targets. String #2.
OK, eight hits in the A zone. Let's try another, string #3.
I was really riding the trigger reset on this string. That high hit happened by accident. Drat. OK, I'll shoot one more string with the VP9 after patching up the previous 8" reactive circle.
OK, not a bad "combat" group, I guess. I did let two get out of the 9 ring but put a few through the same hole again. I think I'm getting more consistent. I do enjoy practicing with this pistol.
I'll be back in the next post with the last 9mm pistol I'll be working with today. I thought I'd show my XD9 some love. Let's see how she compares to the XDM and the VP9. I'll be right back.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff
