Hey folks,
Can you believe it? It's been almost 2 weeks since I've been to the range. I could sure tell from my first couple of targets. I loaded up the three pistols from my last couple of outings, making sure they are good and filthy before I break down and clean them, tomorrow. Here they are in my Condition 1 case just before I head out.
Taurus TX22 TORO, XD45 Mod 2 Tactical, and Glock 17L are coming with me today. Even though it was Saturday, it wasn't too busy at the close range in town. I was able to procure my favorite lane, #10.
I was there for a couple of hours. I had company a couple of times for a short period. It was pretty warm in the range but it didn't bother me. For 9mm I brought a box and a half of the PPU 124 grain. I did not shoot the S&B today. I brought it just in case I was having too much fun and wanted to shoot the Glock more. The .45ACP ammo was my usual LAX Ammo/Freedom Munitions 230 grain, again about a box and a half worth. I had some partial boxes left over after shooting with my buddy Josh a week ago last Sunday. The bulk Federal Champion 36 grain ran flawlessly in the TX22. I also brought along a box of Aguila High Velocity 40 grain to see how the TX22 handled it.
I started with the XD45 Mod 2 Tactical at 10 yards. The first target had a nice circle group a bit low/left of center. It's amazing how much I lose after staying away only two weeks.
Thankfully the targets get progressively better as I remember how to shoot this pistol. I used 10-shot strings, for the most part, at 10 yards, for the most part. Target #2 is a little better.
I slowed down a little with target #3.
I changed targets for #4, hoping to keep them all in the A box. Not this time.
Target #5 is starting to shape up, still at 10 yards and a 10-shot string.
Since that group was pretty tight, I covered it with a reactive 4" circle and sent it back out to 10 yards. It came back like this, target #6.
Only one hit outside of the circle. I wish I could say that the head shot was on purpose, but it was a flyer. Sorry. Still, how about a glam shot?
I have 12 rounds of .45 left so I'm going to patch it up, send the target out to 15 yards, and try my luck.
Yeah, I have to walk across to lane #1 to make sure the target is positioned between the 40' and 50' markers. If I did the math right, that's 45 feet, 45 feet divided by 3 feet is 15 yards. My 15 yard target came back like this.
If you give me a line break, and you guys are so nice to do that for me, there's just one hit off of the 8" reactive circle. Most of the other hits are kinda toward the middle, sort of. I also figure since this is not a full sized silhouette, I'm actually hitting the bad guy much farther away, right? (Wink, wink!)
OK, I'm out of .45 so next up is the 6" barrel of the Glock 17L. I'm really starting to like this pistol, the long sight radius, and the trigger doesn't suck! Again, mostly 10 shot strings at 10 yards but we'll change it up for the last target. The first target came back like this.
Six hits in the 10 ring is pretty good for this old noob. Let's tape on a repair center and try again. Here's target #2.
Cool, eight hits inside the 10 ring. (Line breaks, please!) Let's keep rolling with target #3.
Yep, the usual BassCliff scenario, after a pretty good target I'll get a pretty mediocre target. Still, only two out of the black. Let's see if I can get my act together for target #4.
Yes! It's not that often that I get all ten hits in the 10 ring. Did somebody say "glam shot". Why, of course, don't mine if I do.
That group was tight enough to cover with another reactive sticker. Target #5 came back like this.
It seems my inconsistency is getting less consistent. I've got 15 rounds left for the last target 15 15 yards. It came back like this.
Drat, there's one hit off of the 8" circle. I guess that hit would've done some damage anyway.
I'll be back in the next post to show you my TX22 TORO targets. Thanks for hanging out.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff
