Ho, ho, ho!
I hope you are all enjoying your holiday. With my schedule, I do believe this will be my last range practice session for the year. It was 50° today as I left for the range. All the leftover snow is just about gone. I keep checking the weather report for new snow. No luck yet.
I used the same three pistols as least week. I'm really starting to warm up to the 9mm Ronin but the XDM Elite is taking a little longer for some reason. The VP9 treats me well.
I brought 100 rounds of PMC 124 grain and the same of the PPU. I shot it all. My first target was an "aim small, miss small" target at 10 yards, for the XDM Elite Precision 5.25, which I was not very precise with today.
I tried to put 10 hits on each 4" circle. I got close only on number 4.
I'm going to practice more with this pistol. It feels really good to shoot. I guess it feels so good that I'm not paying enough attention to the front sight. We'll try again with this pistol later. Next up was 50 rounds, in 10-shot strings, through the Ronin. The first 10 yard target came back like this.
Target #2 was a little better. I like the yellow dot in the X-ring.
Target #3 I shot quite fast, hence the larger spread.
Let's change the target and try a couple of 1/3 size USPSA silhouettes.
I know I can do better than that. Here's another USPSA silhouette.
OK, better. Gimme a line break and there's 8 hits in the A-box (2"x3.5"). I still think I can do better, just not today. I want to try a little more distance. Here's an 8" reactive circle at 15 yards using the Ronin.
Hmm, it seems to be shooting a little high at this distance. Maybe it's my hold. We'll try one more time from 15 yards.
Drat. At least the miss is a little closer. Now let's show the XDM some love at 15 yards.
Blast. For seven hits I got a pretty good group at this distance but the three flyers remind me of how mediocre I am. Now it's time to work out with the VP9. I put up my favorite target at 10 yards. The first 10 hits came back like this.
For me, that's not too bad. I'm just going to pound away on this target with the whole box, all 50 rounds. It came back like this.
Phooey. That one high flyer happened when I was riding the reset. It got away before my sights settled. So sue me.
Now I'm gonna work on the VP9 at 15 yards. After putting 20 rounds on a fresh target it came back like this.
Meh, I think I could do better. Next time I'll try to keep them all in the 9-ring on this target. I like the big red bullseye, it gives me something to focus on. Now I'm out of ammo and there's holes in all my targets. I packed up my kit and noticed how busy the range was on the eve of Christmas Eve.
It's a lovely sunset through the woods over the melting snow.
I had a nice drive home and took Mrs. BassCliff out for sushi. Tomorrow will be Christmas with the kids and grandkids after church. Many rich blessings to all. Merry Christmas.
