Red Dot Float

So, regardless of the brand or cost of RD optic chosen...they all will replicate the shooters (shake) impulses? Seems the R and D guys would have come up with a way to internally steady the optic...slow down the sensitivity if you will.
Hmm, I’m not sure what good that would achieve, Phaser. Other than to mask the fact that your aim is unsteady. You’d be missing your intended aim point but not knowing why…
Funny thing about these red dot optics and the like - they don’t make anyone a “better shooter”. I’m still the same lousy shot I always was, it’s just that I’ve got a gadget that improves the gun.

Personally, I think their value lies in faster target acquisition (once you’re used to it). It’s not going to steady your grip, though.

That’s the same principal behind why I like flat-faced U-notch ledge type rear sights over the Novak’s - to me the ledge is a “cleaner” object to look through. It’s faster for me than the Novak which usually has indentations and whatnot…

The pistol itself is moving, therefore a red dot mounted on it and aligned with its bore will also always move. No amount of R&D can correct that-at least not until precision guided munitions can be launched from a handgun😏

That's why I don't use them. If i'm lousy without them i'll be lousy with them. I just save myself a few hundred dollars in purchasing them.
Agree… I looked at them, thought about the cost/benefit, and paused… what tipped the scale was cost and added bulk. Then there’s fooling with batteries, etc.
And cost is more than the optic itself - you have to pay to alter and older gun or purchase a new one. Can’t just glue the thing on, lol…
It’s a way for gun makers to keep those babies rolling off the line !

Private opinion: it’s a fad.

In a way yes otherwise we still be shooting flint lock.

Some people swear by optics and can’t shoot without it and some of us aren’t made for optics.

Personally I’m on the fence but lean towards irons (and prefer co witnesses with optics). I also like barebones for a gun except for a light rail (people that know me know how I like lights on a firearm).

The gun is always moving and is never still. This is the hardest thing to accept.

How can we shoot well when the gun is always moving?

There are ways to reduce the motion, but it never stops. The best you can hold varies day to day and hour by hour

yes unless you get gyro stabilized arms and hands
i think of it as...the laser does not lie... its a tool to help you steady up....but at 60...hmm i gets a wiggle if i hold to long
:ROFLMAO:
i have found if i just draw up and quickly place the dot and fire...its pretty accurate, LESs wiggle in the

old hand parts

Everything I own except one gun has a red dot now. In a traditional sight set up, square notch and front post, my old eyes are not good enough anymore to focus in for alignment. The dot allows me to get on target quickly.
I'm 60, have bad eyesight and arthritis starting up in my hands. Red/green dots (I prefer green) were a game changer for me. I adapted to them quickly, but I know it takes longer for most people. Now here we go...more Fudds are about to put me on ignore! I absolutely hate when some old timer runs his suck about how he won't use optics; maybe said he tried them (probably only ran one or two mags) and they didn't work out for them. And then they put down others for using them and having good luck with them. Ok, rant over. Again, red/green dots were a game changer for me.

DUDE
i LOVE the optics of today, took a few times for the brain to re-calibrate :ROFLMAO:
i have many 1911s with iron sights
and a few other hole punches with red or green lasers
my 308 at 100 yards on a tripod..even with the big scope, its a game changer for that "right" before you squeeze the trigger. it has vastly improved my rifle accuracy on my preferred distance of 100 yards to 200 yards
anything that makes my range or field time more fun...yes sir
