....well, fell off that wagon, again.....
Picked up a Ruger LC 10mm (FDE). Direct blowback.
I was looking at the new S&W FPC in 10mm. After seeing a 9mm one in FDE at a LGS, I thought I might wait until Smith released the 10mm version in FDE. Then I ran across some gun forum posts on the Ruger LC in 10mm and the research began.
Both had great reviews online - both reliable and accurate. I went with the Ruger LC for the following:
1 - It takes Glock 10mm magazines
2 - It just looked aesthetically more pleasing to me.
3 - I liked the idea of a folding stock vs a folding gun.
I keep my larger caliber firearms (300blk and 10mm) themed in FDE. The Ruger LC has this distributor limited FDE version out now, so I jumped on it instead of waiting until they are more difficult to find.
Initial thoughts -
In hand, it looks better than when I saw pics online.
Added:
* M-lok rail section below barrel (5"?) - required for the foregrip
* Nightstrike Diamondback angled foregrip (rail mounted only) - I really like these - I think even better than a vertical foregrip.
* Forward M-lok QD sling mount (included with the gun)
* Holosun AEMS in green w/solar fail safe. - I was open minded about what Holosun dot I was going to put on it. Tried a couple I already owned. I narrowed it down to the SCRS or the AEMS. I was leaning toward the SCRS due to size, simplicity and cost (300 in green). The AEMS appealed to me due to window size and closed emitter. Found a great close out deal on a gray AEMS for 29% off - so costs/benefits convinced me to order it. (This will go on the urban camo Aug, and the AEMS that was on the Aug is not sitting on the LC.)
It kinda gives me the vibe of - if an AR (handguard and stock) and an Uzi had a baby with a little 1911 (Safety) and Glock (magazine) DNA mixed in. Is does have some weight - that , the squared off receiver, and the grip fed magazine is what gives me the vibe of the UZI I owned briefly in the mid 1980s. I'm sure the weight of this firearm will help in felt recoil.
Controls are definitely different from an AR. It has 2 bolt releases. One forward of the left side safely (assuming it would be used more by right handed shooters. And one on the right side forward of the trigger guard - a normal position for a magazine release button. (for left handed shooters?).
Charging handle is on the left side, but can be changed to right. Ambi-safety.
Very roomy trigger guard - should be easy to run with gloves. Grip feels pretty good in my medium sized hands. I was expecting the grip to be more bulky since it is accommodating a double stack 10 mm Glock magazine.
Disassembly is easy. It has a heavy 2 piece bolt. Interestingly, it has a feed ramp on the top of the barrel vs at the bottom (like every other auto handgun or PCC I own).
I had never handled one of these before ordering from my LGS. Based on some research, I did not think I would be disappointed once in my hands. In hand, I am more excited about shooting/running this one than when I ordered it.
In 10mm out or a 16" barrel, this thing should hit with some punch. I could see this in the role of a home defense weapon. With the grip fed magazine, this is a very compact weapon - even with that 16.25" barrel. I think I would be more effective with this tham an 18" barrelled shotgun, shorter barreled shock wave, or pistol grip - if I was moving. Hunkered down in the bedroom, the full size tactical shotgun would probably be more effective.
I should get it to the range in the next week for initial rounds and dot zero.
