Shopping for a truck long gun case

I am doing a couple of multi-state road trips and plan on taking an AR. I'm going to be getting some range time with a brother. I have a very limited space in the back of my SUV, where the floor lifts up and you can store stuff. Very, very short items, less than 3-3 1/2 inches in height. What is a soft rifle case that offers some padding, decent quality and thin?

I use Bulldog rifle cases. However, I only use them to go back and forth from the range and are not subject to excessive wear and tear. So far they are just fine. Here's link to a compact AR15 soft case:
