The authors' the bottom line up front view is that the Springfield Armory 1911 Operator AOS in 9mm is a wicked fun pistol. But I categorize it as something more for enthusiasts who have an appreciation for the platform.

The 1911 is like an automatic watch. You get one because you appreciate the heritage, customization, and swagger that comes with it. You can spend thousands on a nice one, or less on a cheap one.

No matter how nice you go, it’s still a century-old design that doesn’t spit bullets out any better than a $400 polymer gun. Buy it because you appreciate it, not because it’s an objectively better weapon.

disclaimer I haven’t read the whole article yet but have a 45 Operator (2022) and it is a great gun.

There isn’t anything wrong with folks that use and carry a 1911 for a CCW it’s just that they are not for everyone.

And it cracks me up with a 1911 or Revolver someone has to say the obvious and bring up capacity…that really has had zero bearing an any civilian self defense shootjng and only matters when LEOs can’t hit anythjng (from minimal standards no cop left behind standards) that becomes a mag dump.
Like those folks in the early days of internet options that criticized plans that were 800 hours a month to those that had unlimited…like how long you planning to spend a day in the internet dude!?

Anyway .
I liken liken the 1911 for everyday carry to those car enthusiasts that have more knowledge them most that have say a Ford Mach 1 or Corvette or muscle car that takes more attention and they have the knowledge and they don’t mind!

It’s just (and I
Don’t mean to be mean) most folks that get a permit or that carry just don’t have that attention span or desire to get invested in upkeep or training.

And by upkeep I am talking longer term especially for folks that do shoot. While a 1911 isn’t quite as temperamental as many folks claim and will probably get through all 17-30 rounds in the 2-3 mags you keep on you for a CCW scenario it needs cleaning and oiling at lunch in a 5-600 round a day class is needed compacted to a polymer gun like a car owner it’s what they want to take on.

And the reputable companies SA, Colt, S&W (Kimber seems to be almost as good as when they started now) Sig (yeah well like the 220 line it’s not a 320)
The all the custom Wilson LE Bear Nighthawk and etc the 1911 is better than it ever has been!
