Steyr Arms AUG A3 M2 Standard or NATO?

TurboDog910

Master Class
I’m looking at Steyr Arms AUG A3 M2. As I clean out my collection I’m thinking about just going with Bullpup and selling all AR variants at some point.
I want just (1) 5.56, small enough for home defense, without loosing any power and without having to jump through all the hoops of owning an SBR and crossing state lines( NC /SC).
I have read that there may be some issues with feeding and reliability with some AR mags.
Thoughts on the two different versions?

I have the newer Aug M2 made here in the states. Really like the gun.
Feeds all my high quality Magpul AR15 mags with no issues.
Only thing that is noticeable about an AUG is lack of rail space and the fact no left ejection. I’m a southpaw, so suppressed, gas ejection is in my face. You have to buy a new gas block for the Aug to suppress it. Easy to install, but, always out of stock. I had to wait 4 months.
There are aftermarket rails you can buy though.
Company called Corvus Defense sells Aug accessories.
I installed their ejection port block.

Also, look at a Hellion. I own that as well. Ambi controls and can swap to left ejection w no tools. Also suppresses easy as it has a built in gas block adjustable.

#1 son has one that takes AR mags-it’s ran pretty well for him. He’s sold on it. Frankly it surprised me. The forgrip causes pressure directly on the barrel, therefore trigger is super mushy, so it ought to group in a barn door, however his shoots VERY well. I looked at it and said this thing can’t shoot worth crap. When it shot it I was doing better than I was with his 20” barreled AR. Note that stock AUG mags are $$$

AUG lover here. I really like the Steyr magazines, so it’s the standard model for me.

Expensive? From Steyr, 30-rd mags are $29. They are probably less from other sources, and MagPul AUG mags are something like $22. That’s less than any rifle mag I know of aside from AR mags and it’s a damn good mag.

The US made AUG does NOT take Steyr waffle mags. NATO Stanmags only like AR-15. Thus the OP question on the new NATO Aug or the traditional. If one has AR-15 platform rifles and a ton of mags, the US made Aug that accepts them is the way to go.

What suppressors are you running on these?

Aug has a SilencerCo 36m .30cal can as I swap between .308 & 5.56 rifles with qd muzzle brakes.
I have some dedicated 5.56 cans, I found the Dillon to be most quiet, but its a little heavier
