Oh yay, looks like it will be a heavy year for them here. I saw several screen shots from radar which showed them coming. The years you can watch them come on radar are the worst. They can be so thick its like ice skating you walk and its so dirty lol. Not sure where the picture of the gas station is, but they are having a BAD year... when I worked in the body shop another guys and I were talked with rinsing them off alk the cars. The dealership got ticketed because they were causing accidents from cars not being able to stop. No its not the apocalypse, just feels that way for a month or so.

I’ve been there several times, delivering groceries to those very same gas stations. Guy I worked with had to stay in the truck, he threw up soon after getting out. The smell is, sublime, the streets are slick as a gut under street lights. A regular zombie apocalypse event of the bug world.

We had the enormous cicada's come out a few years ago. i wore ear muffs. would be several hundred in each tree. was them smaller red ones and it's about time for them to emerge again.

so i assume the locusts we caught as kids were actually cicadas or maybe locusts
we used to climb the tall cotton wood trees and catch them
waaay back when i was very much younger
i remember a few sounding like an ambulance siren

Locusts are what most people around here refer to as grasshoppers. Make good fish bait.
But in large swarms, they can devastate fields and forests by stripping and eating the leaves. Thus the term a "plague" of locusts.
