The p320 plot thickens…

A sig 320 is my truck gun.
Sits in the center console pointed away from me. Especially on the days when I have to go get the mother in law 🙃

I was just curious so i did a quick bit of research online, so i take that for what it may be worth but. Figures i have seen say there are approx 2.5 million p320 variants that have been sold. Most sources I have seen say about 100 claimed so called self discharges. Even if that number was doubled to 200 it means .008 percent of them had a supposed self discharge.

What's it mean, who knows, just found it interesting and a very small percentage. I thought with all of the trouble it would be much higher.

That changes nothing as the avalanche was already going. There’s enough documented video of holster pops with no fault of the user there’s an issue

That said a retired OSI troop that is on the forum can chime in but I spent several years active duty AF Security Forces and saw OSI do their thing. The odd thing in the article it listed the most serious charge of involuntary manslaughter last behind obstruction and making false statements.
Every major investigation they always listed the most serious charges first. So not sure if it was a reporter just randomly listing or did they stack the charges???

Time will tell but I don’t remember ever reading a major case list the serious stuff last.

That said this whole debacle is like a bad FX series!

Investigations often determine that things are not as they first seem. It is why I always caution folks to wait and see what the investigation shows before drawing conclusions. But that is certainly not how social media, or even so called "journalists" seem to operate nowadays.

I will not say there have not been uncommanded discharges because guns are mechanical devices and can fail. But I have investigated a few "it just went off" incidents over the years and am highly suspicious of such claims. I am especially suspicious of such claims on the military version with thumb safeties. Something is causing the trigger to be activated in most if not all these cases.

The AF doctrine is they do not use the thumb safety and never engage it. When we went from Midel 15 revikvers to Betetta M9 we carried round chambered hammer down then flipped the sa/Decick lever to fire so we have that first DA pull like our revikvers. (And every OD with the exception of LASD carried theor 92’s on safe)

When they went to the Sig M18 they kept that doctrine I presume as they have always don’t it AND it’s no different than carrying a standard 320.

In 2010 time frame the Chief of Security Forces was looking at ordering Glocks for all Air Force Security Forces and would really be no different than when General LeMay ordered M16’s and outfitted us with Model 15 revolvers but that went away as he was due to retire and did.

It didn’t take long for everyone to jump on the anti Sig band wagon, including some members here
i myself only have 2 SIgs...the STX 1911, and yes...the P320, (with a WIlson lower, and weight kits)

i love mine, and shoot it quite well.

i have had NO issues, but as i have said, its a range toy only.....

i had read a "few" articles from actual experts/gunsmiths, that say something along the lines of "after xxx number of rounds, change out the trigger bar", or the sear springs.

i dunno.....since i have had NO issues, i cannot condemn a good shooting gun that i own.

a "few errant shots"..
