The PDW concept continues on both sides

Back in the 80s NATO started looking for a small(er) weapon that non combat troops could have available (as in not leaning against a tree over there) when needed. The project evolved or perhaps devolved into a requirement to defeat Soviet body armor (4.7 and 5.6). As in so much of Combloc thinking they took a simpler route. They simply shortened their AK74 into the AK74U (much like the west turned the M16 into the M4). A few of the fringe Combloc states were too vested in the original AK47 design in 762x39 so they followed the same principal in the older cartridge. We can debate the smaller, lighter, faster 545 vs the bigger, heavier, slower 762; but the fact is they both work as fighting cartridges.

Now what may seem a backward step for the (now) Russians, they have produced the AK15K which was born out of the AK12 modernization project (not the shotgun). It has a shorter barrel with an adjustable stock and a forearm with attachment points for accessories. Its purportedly intended for operating in smaller spaces and urban environments. AND its 762x39

Whatever works for you is always the best choice. Personally I’ve got maybe 50 actual AK mags do I never felt the need for a AR style. If I want a similar AR I’ll grab a 300 Black Out.

I’m really not sure how I feel about FRTs. I was kinda burned with the TacCon trigger which was pre FRT. The problem was if you pulled to hard as in a stressful situation it would only fire one shot when you wanted a burst.

That’s why I’ve chosen binary triggers for most of my serious weapons and they make binaries for AKs

Have you ever wondered how well this setup would work in 9X23 Winchester, or even 10mm Magnum?
YES! Cartridges like those I place in the "Interdemiate" class, to those I include 357Sig. I once considered an AR pistol in 762x25 that used PPS mags; but passed. I think it would have made a cool

Today I think 10mm has the most potential as a Heavy SMG/PDW cartridge; but its over shadowed by 300 Blackout and 762x39

The 10mm Magnum is a true 40-caliber "thumper". With a frontal area broad enough to heavily crush bone and flesh and carrying a power level of the .44 Remington Magnum, this reminds me of a "Thompson" SMG on steroids.

THAT'S a modern PDW!

OK Im not opposed to a 10mm SMG/PDW; but in WHAT platform? Using what magazine?

Either the AR or AK platform would function quite well. They can arrange for a .45 ACP chambering. Why not?
Ive seen 45acp ARs, but never a 45 AK.

I have been toying with a Kriss Vector in 45acp or possible 10mm. 9 Hole did a video showing how well the Kriss could be maneuvered INSIDE a vehicle. When using a flush mag (pistol length) there was nothing to snag as you maneuvered in the car and easy to swop to an extended when clear.
