Thunder Ranch (Training with Clint Smith) How often do you get to do formal training?

USMC1911

Master Class
Occasionally I try and take a formal class. Since leaving Law Enforcement I learned to appreciate formal training. A lot of things have changed since I left Law Enforcement. I try to stay up to date. I wish I could afford to do more training. There are a lot of good training academy’s out there

Unfortunately there are no classes near me, but when I was at my sheriffs dept, I would go out with the deputies when they qualified and at times when they did their training.

I was ona schedule of at least one to two formal training sessions per year until Covid hit, making travel challenging + a lot of training classes just got cancelled. I'm planning on getting back on the schedule in '23 and am currently researching options.
I’ve always heard about Thunder Ranch and Clint Smith. I finally saved up enough money to take a course. The course was excellent but overall very expensive. I think it’s more cost effective to go somewhere closer to your home. I flew into Reno and rented a car. Drove from Reno to Oregon. Stayed at a local Motel for the week.

Countless classes since 1969. 17 instructor courses. I shot every week, sometimes several times a week. Ammo costs and COVID killed my training business. Very few can afford the ammo and travel. Since COVID, over the past 2 years I shoot to maintain my qualifications and no more. I focus on high value drills and forego high round count. I love to shoot but refuse to enrich the ammo sellers who I believe are fleecing us.

No super famous dudes in my training past, but I take a lot of classes. Mostly from a guy named Bill Curry, who's a complete bad *** ex combat Marine/instructor and 20 year police captain/instructor. He was a jump out boy before he made captain.

I'm a training junkie and I'd love to train at Thunder Ranch or with the IWI guys, but I wouldn't like paying for it.

That looks like a fabulous place to hone your skills. I like to take a class or clinic once or twice a month. Lately it's been USCCA classes at my local range. I wish I would've attended Front Sight near Las Vegas before I moved away. Thank you for your service as LEO.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff
