Vortex Counterfeit red dots!

I want to share with you my recent experience with Vortex optics.

A little over a year ago I purchased a Viper off of Amazon. This was my first red dot and I was mounting it on a Ruger American Competition. I spent may hours at the range and kept thinking the dot was drifting but doubted myself about setting it correctly. It was not a good design for my gun and it was set aside for a time. A few months ago, I ordered up the Venom (on Ebay) which was a step up from the Viper and would work better on my gun. I got is zeroed at home with a bore sight and went to the range. After on box of ammo it lost center and went to the left. I reached out to the dealer right away and he offered me 50% back and said they have a great warranty. I agreed to take the money and was figuring that the force of the slide on that gun was throwing the sights out of zero.

I reached out to Vortex and very quickly I had a call tag and they had my sights. I few days later I received an email saying that both these sights were not genuine. They were not going to repair them but they would offer me 50% of any sight from them. Or they would return them with a letter saying they are fake.

I asked Vortex how I could tell they where fake? After all these are low end red dots and hard for me to imagine, anyone would bother making a copy. They politely refused to tell me how anyone could tell; I even sent photos of the box. I pointed out that they had no notice on there website about fakes being sold. They offer this consumer nothing in the way of help to identify them.

“We are unable to disclose what makes it a fake since we do not want that info out to the public, we just recommend buying from our dealers –“

To recap: They will not tell us how to identify them, they will not post a warning and they will not fix them. Think twice about buy a Vortex sight from anyone except there big box stores but even then, we still will not know.
