The Winchester 1873's popularity is forever enshrined by early and modern Amateur (Ham) Radio Operators by closing their on air conversations by transmitting "73", a shortened version of, literally, "I will you my Winchester 1873". This transmission at the end of a QSO (conversation) is still heard today by ham operators young and old. A great show of respect for the legacy and history of this legendary rifle. "73"
