High End Shotgun vs Affordable Shotgun

More like a range toy than home defense, which I have 3-4 of (which includes the M1014}, for that job. I’m been going back and forth even before I got the M1014, so it’s still only a possibility. Besides the M1A SOCOM/Scout, Henry X 44 or 357 Mag lever action, Sig Tread. 400, & what I still have on order, the Panzer is lower on the list.
 
I have the Remington 870 Home Defense with factory six round extended magazine, synthetic stock and tiny bead front sight. I added a shell holder to the left side of the receiver.
All it needs to be a "high end" shotgun is a good weapons light.

It has the classic 870 slick action and sledge hammer reliability.
That's what I call "High End".

If it don't go "Bang!" every time, it ain't High End.
 
I have a couple "high end" shotguns. Not the one I really want which is living rent free in my head about 16 hours a day right now. :ROFLMAO: My main workhorse for drills and classes and training is the 7+1 Mossberg 500 20" with telescoping stock, Magpul forend and a $40 Feyachi WML with a pressure switch.

I hear the blood bank pays well, and perhaps enough to go the M4 route in a few weeks. ;)

The job I have been doing for the last 4 months is removing copper risers ( the thing your gas meter sits on) and replacing them with the current standard ( which is plastic). This probably doesn't make sense to you, but the bottom line is that every day I end up with about 10' of 1/2" copper and 1/3 lb. of brass ( from the lock cocks). I have 5 gallon buckets in the truck filling up slowly but surely. I also get a bonus every December that's usually about 4k. One way or another that M1014 will be in my safe this year. I can't let you bastages have all the cool stuff without me dipping my toes in. ;)

First things first though. I figure I need about 2 grand for ammo before I can sleep comfortably through the night again.
 
Hope the prices for scrap copper & brass are good now & through the rest of the year to help you in your quest for a M1014, and enough food for it.

BTW - I traded 3 redundant items that weren't doing anything for me in order to get my H2O.

It's up pretty good right now. I have a few things I am trying to get rid of myself. None of them gun related though. I have an 8' enclosed trailer that I bought my dad which he used one time, less than 100 miles and which I paid $2400 for. I'd like to get $1200 out of it. I also have a 2006 Ampeg SVT CL with $300 worth of NOS Russian power tubes that hasn't been pushed hard since I had the premiere Ampeg guy in STL give it a work over.

So I have that going for me. :-)

Sounds like a viable transport vehicle for my firearms collection :unsure:, then again it's probably too small for that, and I'd have to make multiple trips. 😆🤣🤣
 
I normally like Clint's videos, but this one doesn't impress me much. He didn't really run the guns or leave us with a sense of closure. The gist of it seems to be, buy what you like and train with it. Which is like a no **** Sherlock thing.

Having trained with Pump actions and Mossberg 500s specifically for years I can't imagine myself "Forgetting to pump" in a SD situation, but I do kind of agree that SA is the way to go. There is a caveat though. It has to be utterly reliable. Which means you are going to spend more than $400, even in pre-scamdemic dollars.

I've put over 1000 rounds through my TS-12 and it has been 100% reliable so far. I would ( and do) trust it as a HD weapon, but if I had, say, a Benelli M4 or a Beretta 1301 I think I would trust it more than the IWI. Maybe not trust it more persay, but it would be the one I went for. I have trained with and manipulated the TS12 a lot, but it is still a strange shotgun when you're used to years of running shotguns that didn't come straight out of space movies. I think the TS12 and guns like the KSG25 ( after extensive range time) would excel at things that are much less likely to ever happen. Things like engaging multiple threats where round count really matters. Which means in essence these are always going to be primarily range toys. Even now, with over 1000 failure free rounds through the IWI, the shotgun by my head at night is a Mossberg 500. When I get the M1014 I suspect that will change.

Anyway, it's pretty obvious Clint isn't a shotgun guy. He has a few Hollywood moves down. He kept working the bolt like he was in a movie. The super cool hand over the top move, whatever. I'd smoke his *** on a shotgun range, of that I'm sure. I still think most of his videos are pretty cool even if they aren't as informative and useful as some other guy's videos. Like that guy in the other current Shotgun video thread with the torture tests. That guy is funny and he clearly has spent a little more time with shotguns. And most importantly, he showed us all exactly how far you could trust that poor Black Aces Super Max whatever the F it's called. 416 rounds. ;)

Unfortunately I sold my 16' enclosed to my ungrateful bastard of a son in law a few months ago. Even that may be too small.

In an unbelievable twist of fate, one of the bosses at work today approached me about a shotgun his brother is trying to sell. It is a Benelli tactical although he is unsure of which model. He thinks he wants $1300 for it. If it is an M4 of any variety I will buy it immediately. If it is one of the other M models I may buy it too depending on the actual current market value or new selling price.

Sounds good. While the M1014 has the "coolness" of the faux collapsible stock, and whether you convert it to full functionality, I've found the psitol group stock version (John Wick) to be a solid configuration. The standard non-PG stock is also functional but easily converted to a Mesa Tactical PG stock which counts towards the 922R 3-count if you got with a +2 extension. If you want the M1014 stock then your 922R parts count goes up to 4 US made components.

I don't necessarily need the collapsible stock, but I would prefer the one that looks like the collapsible one. I'm sure there are other stocks I could put on it. The main thing is I am going to want a 7 round tube, be it via a 2 round extension tube or a straight swap for the 7 round tube.
