The new Sig GPMG uses the .338 NM also, and I think it will start displacing the .50 over time.

With the energy of the 50 it'll be hard to beat, especially a bullet weighing 2.5 to 3 times as much. Probably less of the 50's, but not a replacement. Just like in engines....no replacement for displacement!

I see the .50 cal retained for heavy vehicle mounts but on the ground, aerial & light vehicle mounts the new Sig .338 NM GPMG will take over since it replaces the M240, and the .338 NM has far superior performance than the 7.62x51.
