This is from Springfield Armory's debut of the Firecat at SHOT Show 1992:
The biggest news from Springfield was the introduction of the "R" series pistols. These four guns -- the Panther, the Firecat, the Bobcat and the Lynx -- are based on the Astra automatic pistols, but with a few custom modifications, like Com-mander-style hammers, checkered walnut grips, and low-profile white-dot sights. The Panther comes in 9mm, .40S&W and .45ACP; the Firecat is chambered in 9mm and .40S&W; the Bobcat is made for .380ACP; and the Lynx chambers .25 auto.

I had several Astra A-100s which were nice pistols in the day. Used them to qualify for CCW after instructor said no to Ruger single actions.

If I am not mistaken, the Astra was a close copy of an Sig design, hence the familiarity between them, but I can’t remember for sure, so if I am wrong, sorry. Never saw this gun from Springfield though, looks nice, I would have bought one myself back then…

Astra made some solid pistols. My uncle had a A-80 many years ago, it was one of the first pistols I'd ever shot (maybe the first). It was a clone of a SIG Sauer.
