In my primitive trekking days I have had pemmican a number of times. It can be really good and it can be really bad, some I gagged down.

But, if made correctly, it will keep you alive and on the trail for a long time. add a bag of parched corn, or corn meal, some jerkey, some chocolate and sugar and you have a trekkers longterm menu and some really good eats.
